About Us
The Società San Marco is a social club based in Toronto which celebrates our great Italian heritage. We hold many events throughout the year including an annual picnic, a feast in honour of San Rocco and various dinner dances. These gatherings allow us to remember our roots and celebrate our rich traditions together.
Our Story
The Società San Marco Social Club began as an idea on April 29, 1963 in order to unite those who immigrated to Toronto from various areas of Pescosolido, including San Marco, Valpara, Via Piana, Forcella, Colledardo, San Vincenzo Ferreri and Valleradice. In fact, the club is named after a small strip of land in the area where there was once a chapel by the same name. This emphasizes the importance of the Catholic faith to the club, an important tie that binds all members and allows us to recreate the unity shared by our ancestors.
From the original 11 committee members we have grown to over 200 full time members. Our members are very committed and passionate about our Italian culture. In fact, one of our most popular events is the Feast of San Rocco which we hold every year in early August at the Columbus Center in Toronto. The feast is organized by the committee members and truly shows what we have to offer the Italian community.
In addition to hosting the feast of San Rocco, we also celebrate three dinner dances and an annual picnic. Each dinner dance celebrates a specific theme: International Women’s Day in the Spring, La Vendemmia (the grape harvest) in the fall, and a Christmas lunch with Santa Claus for the children. The annual picnic is loaded with exciting events including a bocce tournament, a traditional conca carrying competition, spaghetti/watermelon eating contests, and an egg/water balloon toss.
